FC Barcelona have won the Spanish Super Cup for the 16th time after a dramatic 3–2 victory over Real Madrid in the final played in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Blaugrana first defeated Athletic Club in the semi-final before overcoming their rivals in the El Clásico showdown. The latest success also means Barcelona have now won the Super Cup in back-to-back seasons.

With this victory, Barcelona extend their record as the most successful club in the history of the competition, moving ahead of Real Madrid, who have 13 titles.

Barcelona first lifted the Spanish Super Cup in the 1983/84 season and have since added many more trophies over the years, showing long-term dominance in the competition.

The win also ended two long-running trends. Barcelona became the first league champions in eight seasons to win the Super Cup and the first club to successfully defend the title since Pep Guardiola’s side won three in a row between 2010 and 2012.

The latest triumph adds another major trophy to Barcelona’s rich history and confirms their strong start to the current season.
