Tottenham Hotspur could beat Manchester United to the signing of another midfielder this year, according to Teamtalk.

The Red Devils were keen on landing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid on loan last summer, but a deal did not materialise.

Gallagher has recently joined Spurs on a permanent deal, and reports claim that the London giants are eyeing another United target.

Crystal Palace sensation Adam Wharton is highly-regarded by the Red Devils, and they are weighing up a summer approach for him.

However, they could face fierce competition from Tottenham, who are already making groundwork to win the race for his services.

Spurs have the financial firepower to compete with the Red Devils and could be prepared to pay as much as £100 million for Wharton.

Wharton has yet to decide on his next club, but it has been claimed that Champions League football could be key to prising him away.

Liverpool and Manchester City have also been linked with him.
