The Niger State Commissioner of Mineral Resources, Hon. Muhammed Qasim Danjuma, has appealed for the revival of the illegal mining task force to aid in enforcing mining laws against offenders in the state.

Danjuma stated this during a visit to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, with his entourage at the Police Headquarters in Minna. He said reviving the task force would ensure a more peaceful environment and help achieve the vision of a new Niger State.

According to him, “Some miscreants are hiding under the guise of mining to cause chaos and perpetrate crime in the communities.”

He emphasized that the state is resolute in halting illegal mining, which is associated with crime and other vices, and called for the revival of the task force.

“Our visit is for two main reasons: first, to appreciate and commend the tremendous efforts of the CP and his officers in sanitizing the state, especially the metropolis, against criminal elements. We are also here to introduce the new management of the ministry, share its renewed vision of transformation with the Command, as well as solicit synergy, improved collaboration, and support, particularly against illegal mining activities in the state,” he stated.

Responding, CP Elleman appreciated the ministry for acknowledging the efforts of the Police Command in combating crime.

He added that both organizations share a common interest in providing residents of the state with a peaceful environment and assured the commissioner of improved synergy and collaboration.

He also admonished the ministry to provide the police with credible information regarding illegal mining activities for prompt intervention and to prevent further damage to property.
