Chelsea Boss Maresca Admits Discipline Is a Problem After His Red Card Against Liverpool

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has said the team must improve their discipline, after he was sent off during their 2-1 win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues took all three points thanks to goals from Moises Caicedo and young star Willian Estevão, but once again, the match ended with a red card — this time for Maresca himself.

The Italian was shown a second yellow card for dissent near the end of the game. It’s now the third red card in four matches for Chelsea, following previous send-offs in games against Manchester United, Brighton, and Benfica.

After the match, assistant coach Willy Caballero spoke to the press first. Later, Maresca admitted Chelsea’s poor discipline could hurt their title chances.

“We need to stop that. We need to keep working to improve,” Maresca told reporters. “It sounds easy, but controlling emotions in the game is not always simple. This time it was me, and right at the end, but I know how important it is for me to be on the touchline.”

He added: “We need to talk with the squad. We can’t keep losing points or chances to stay near the top of the table because of things like this.”
