Manchester United could make a big-money move for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Red Devils were keen on landing a marquee midfielder during the summer transfer window. They were initially interested in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, but were priced out of a transfer.
The Mancunian giants tried to land Conor Gallagher on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid on deadline day, but the Spanish giants were not keen on sanctioning a temporary deal for the Englishman.
Fichajes now claim that Man United could turn their attention to Valverde. It is reported that he could be prised away for around €80m from Los Blancos.
The Uruguayan apparently has a mixed relationship with new manager Xabi Alonso and could be open to a new challenge in his illustrious career.
United are yearning for a top-class defensive midfielder to bring calm to the proceedings in the centre of the park. Valverde would be a perfect fit.
