Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has said there is some element of madness in being a soldier.

Lieutenant General Oluyede said this while presenting his CV and experiences as Chief of Army Staff during the ongoing screening of new service chiefs in the Senate, on Wednesday.

Explaining his assertion, the CDS pointed out that while a human being would ordinarily run from danger, a soldier is expected to go forward and face that challenge.

He further stated that being a service chief in Nigeria, one has to submit himself totally, without sleeping or having any time to themselves. “And do everything under duress to make Nigeria safer,” he said.

He added, “There is something special about being a soldier; to be a soldier, there is some element of madness.

“For a right-thinking person, when there is danger, you expect to retreat, but a soldier is expected to go forward and face that challenge.”

Oluyede was appointed the Chief of Defence Staff to take over from General Christopher Musa, who was sacked last week by President Bola Tinubu.
